Finding Our Way
Artist's Statement
Awarded artist, Gail Vogels, presented her most recent paintings of the urban DC Metro landscapes, at the Yellow Barn Gallery in April 2014. This event was hosted by the National Park Service and the Parks and History Association. Gail Vogels moved from Atlanta to DC in 2012 and as all newcomers do, first learned to navigate the Metro. She saw beauty in the shifting compositions of figure, landscape, color and light and began to paint her daily commute. These paintings are reminders that, like life, the Metro ride is rapid, temporary, and beautiful. Regardless of how familiar the ride becomes we are all still finding our way again and again.
